Teaching Activity 5: English - writing
A large number of writing opportunities could follow on from activities 2, 3, and 4. These are just a very small number of suggestions:
Non-fiction writing:
- A summary of the class discussion can be written putting forward the range of views expressed.
- A letter can be written to persuade someone with opposing views to the writer to change their mind
- A newspaper article can be written about a female sporting activity
- A class letter can written to a newspaper (local or national) pointing out the differences in coverage between male and female sport, and asking for their comments
Fiction writing:
- Imaginative writing of a new fairy story or 'folk tale', using traditional gender stereotypes and language.
- Imaginative writing which inverts the usual gender roles in a fairy story or folk tale
