Ideas for teachers 1: Cross Curricular Key Stage 2

Teaching Activity 2: English - Oracy, language development

Following the work on handling data on the numbers of male and female heroes, the class then discusses why there are so very few women who have been nominated. The discussion might consider whether there are women heroes, but they weren't nominated, or whether there aren't as many women heroes as men heroes and if so, why not? The discussion may involve the issues of 'fairness' and equality, and may want to consider the words 'hero' and 'heroine' and what they imply. What adjectives would we use to describe a hero? And what would we use to describe a heroine?
